I am using an old version of Free Studio and am considering buying a license for the Premium Membership. Is that a one time only (lifetime) membership? Also, have the programs been updated? I would like to see three dimensional control buttons and the ability to move, group and remove the control buttons to make the program easier to use and prevent the accidental mistouch of the wrong button.

I am still having trouble with the "Original Format" being greyed out and unusable. I have downloaded and installed the "Major Release " of Free Studio 6.5.7.1015 with the same results. I have also downloaded three versions of Free Video Editor last one being version 1.4.17.1019 and installed them all separately as you suggested. All of those also yielded the same result, the save to "Original Format" doesn't work, is greyed out. It seams that the problem persists. You asked someone why they would install an older version of the software, this is the reason, the older software works and the new version doesn't. I have also found that the back up function (fast reverse) doesn't work in this latest version and files converted to avi aren't as sharp as with the "Original Format".

I would like to and expect to be able to record a file containing both audio and video. The screen recorder is useless if it doesn't do that. The microphone input isn't a part of recording streaming video. Perhaps this is not the intended use of this program. If it is not, what is it intended to be used for?

HELLO! Your responses are rather Curt. We just want help to get the software to work. We don't always understand what is happening so we go to the source, the so called experts, and we get a smart alleck answer back from you. This doesn't promote good relations.

I had no idea that there was a "Ask the Specialist" option on the Help Desk and why would I expect to use that to send a log file. I was looking for a "Upload Log File" key or something. Ask the Specialist implies that I want to conduct an online conversation which I do not.

I have found the changes to be very much of an improvement over the old "Video Dub". The program is more stable and most of the features work. Some changes could be made to improve efficiency and some non working features could be fixed. Here is what I have found so far:

    What doesn't work:
    1) Saving to any other format other than "Original Format" doesn't work and results in a very small file with no viewable content.
    2) "Previous Frame" controls, either cntrl + left arrow or tool on toolbar don't work. Sometimes it backs up one or two frames but no more.

Control upgrades would be very useful and speed up file editing such as:
    1) Show the file name of the file being edited somewhere on the editing screen.
    2) After saving an edited file and clicking on the "Open Folder" button, go directly to the file just edited instead of the top of the file list. Make it an option so the user can set it the way he finds it most useful.
    3) Add the ability to move an anchor (beginning and end) after it has been set. The only way I have found to reset the anchor position is to delete the selection and start all over. A big time consumer.

General comment: I have edited several dozen episode files from various TV programs since installing this new version of Video Editor, I am currently using v1.4.1 build 605. I have found that the program is much more stable than the old "Video Dub". I did find that selecting the segments you want to keep is faster than selecting the segments you want to eliminate. The latter requires two more edit selections and requires more time.

Mikki, thanks for the instructions. First, I am old-school, I liked the old way of editing. That being said, I can see the merits of editing by this new method, it might be faster and save steps. and I will give this new version a go. The addition of the Audio track, the playback indicator, the blue sections indicator line are a vast improvement. Also, the file can now be viewed without locking up the program.

Why can't you just tell me where the X went to delete a section and how to do it with the new Editor? I have played with this program until I am totally disgusted with it. I can't do the simplest task that I need to do. And please stop apologizing and help us use this program.

There is no X to cut a segment from a file on my copy of the software, I can mark a segment and save it but that doesn't allow for removing several segments (commercials) from a file.

New version is out and the program appearance has changed. Can't figure how to cut a segment from a file as the controls have changed.
